He was the son of Thomas Wesley and Grace Redin Antill. He was a former Sheriff of Monroe County. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Woodsfield. He was first married to Esther Moose and then to Eva Jean Lowe. He had six children: Ralph, James, John, Judy, and Patricia. His other son Joseph preceded him in death in 1969.
