Michael Louis Whiddon, 52 of Ozark, formerly of Newville, died unexpectedly Friday morning, Jan. 24, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Greg Aman officiating. Burial will follow at the Newville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the residence in Ozark. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ozark Baptist Church, 282 S. Union Ave., Ozark, Ala. 36360.
Mr. Whiddon was born and reared in Newville, son of the late Marvette L. (Gret) Whiddon and Rose Colle Whiddon. He had lived in Ozark since 1990.
Mr. Whiddon attended Newville High School but was a 1968 graduate of Abbeville High School. He also graduated from Troy State University where he received a degree in business administration. Mr. Whiddon was a member of Ozark Baptist Church. He was employed as a superintendent with J.B. Head Construction Co. of Ozark. In earlier years, he was employed by Singletary Construction Co. of Dothan.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Cathy Gwyn Whiddon; four daughters, Christina Kelley and her husband, Shane Kelley of Fayetteville, Ark., Stephenie Vega and her husband, Albero Vega of Dothan, Malissa Curtis and her husband, Ian Curtis of Dothan, and Brandi Whiddon of Dyer Ind.; two sons, Christopher Whiddon of Anchorage, Alaska, and Robert Whiddon of Ozark; a sister, Jill Whiddon Capan of Newville; a brother, Russell Joe Whiddon and his wife, Cathy Bodiford Whiddon of Derby, Kan.; six grandchildren, Cori Hall, Christian Burgans, McKayla Burgans, Martha Vega, Mikie Curtis and Cora Curtis.
