Gilbert Hathaway Bunker was born in the town of Smyrma, Chenango County, New York, November 10,1820 and passed away at his home in Montfort, Wisconsin October 11, 1924 at the age of 103 years and 11 months.

At the age of 18 years, he went to Pennsylvania where he spent 2 years, coming to Illinois, locating near what is now the city of Rockford.

At the age of 25 years, he was united in marriage to Miss Nancy Keith at Rockford on August 15. They lived happily together for over 77 years, Mrs. Bunker passed away December 27, 1922. to this union were born four children. Mrs. J. E. Doran of Montfort; Mrs. J. H. Skillcorn, Windsor, MO; Henry Bunker, Salem, MO; Scott Bunker, Montfort.

Mr Bunker came to Wisconsin from Illinois in 1844 ;locating between Montfort and Livingston. In 1867 he moved to Martinville and to Montfort in 1884 where he engaged in the mercantile business.

Deceased joined the M.E. church when a mere boy of tender age and his whole life has been a shining example of faith and service for the Master, exemplified by faith in and service for his fellow man. for over half a century he was a beloved class leader in his church. Temperate in all things, yet active until recent years, he was recently heard to say "He couldn't expect to lie on a flowery beds of ease when others fought to win the prize and sailed on bloody seas".

Mr. Bunker was ready for the final act of the heavenly Father to make his life complete, and in the quiet hours of the morning the messenger came to this beloved man and the faithful and trusting soul was gathered, as if falling asleep unto his fathers. And the end was peace.

The funeral was held at 1:30pm Monday at the M. E. church, Rev. W.P. Burrows officiating. Interment in Rock Church Cemetery
