Cullie Cain's Father Dies At Sayre
J.G. Cain, father of Cullie Cain and a former well known resident of this place, 20 years ago, died at a Sayre hospital early Monday after a brief illness. Mr. Cain had been in ill health the past two years and had been forced to retire from the carpentry trade.
Born October 27, 1866 in Lafayette, Ind., he was married to Dona Hutchons, June 22, 1890 at Quanah, Tex. The family lived at Carnegie prior and for some time after World War I before moving to Sayre where they have since lived. He has been a member of the Baptist church 13 years and was a former member of the Odd Fellow lodge.
He is survived by his widow, four sons, Cullie of Carnegie, Wes of Sayre, Doss of St. Louis, Okla., and W.H. of Butler, Mo.; four daughters, Mrs. Edna Denton of Oklahoma City, Mrs. G.D. Denton of Levelland, Tex., Mrs. George Henthorn of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Joe Montgomery of Amarillo. Other survivors include four brothers, George of Sayre,. Ralph of Wichita Falls, Tex., Charles of Roaring Springs, Tex., and Robert of El Reno; three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Herrington of Sayre, Mrs. Mattie Calvert of Roaring Springs, Tex., and Mrs. Florence Wheeler of Gillette, ark. Twenty-five grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the First Baptist church, with Rev. J.L. Davis officiating, assisted by Rev. Carl Mabra. Interment was made in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery.
