-"To date no obituary has been found for great-grandfather William Henri Brainard but the following has either been told to me as a young girl, or documented in census reports, etc."
William. H. Brainard was born in 1808 in Middlesex Co, CT. His parents were Eliza (Brooks) and Henry Brainard from CT.
-By the time Wm H. was a teenager his parents moved to Bergen, Genesee County, NY where they remained through Wm. H.'s twenties.
Wm H. Married Theresa Abigail (Bushnell) Brainard in 1836 in NY, I think. They moved to Granger, Medina County, OH in about 1838 remaining until about 1846/1847. When they left OH they had two daughters Helen and Celia, and two sons Henry and William.
-At the age of forty plus Wm H. was a Lawyer living in Henry County, IL with his wife Theresa, now have a new daughter Cora, and by 1851, another son Charles.
-Wm H. was still practicing law in his fifties when the family moved to Summerset, Adair County, IA.
-When Wm. H. was in his sixties he and his wife Theresa were living in Lincoln, Poweshiek County, IA. Theresa A.'s widowed mother Abigail (Husted) Bushnell was living with them, as well as their son William.
-Sometime after mother Abigail passed on in 1874, Wm. H. and Theresa moved to Hopkins, Nodaway Co, Missouri where Wm. H., now in his seventies, is retired and Theresa A. was a millner.
-Wm. H. and wife Theresa A. (Bushnell) Brainard, and their sons Henry and Charles are buried at the Hopkins Cemetery. Helen and William are at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine, Benton County, IA. Celia is at the Greenhill Cemetery, Porter, OK.
Cora is at the Old Marengo Cemetery, Marengo, Iowa County, IA.
-"My grandfather purchased a grave site, 'Lot No. 20, Block No. 2, amount paid was $5.00. The mayor, Joseph H. Sayler, signed the deed. I have the original Hopkins Cemetery Deed. I'm sure someone in the family used the plot, but I do not know who is buried in Lot 20, Block No. 2."
