AKRON, Iowa -- Lesley Anderson, 81, of Akron died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at his home on the family farm he loved so much.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Lesley Anderson was born July 29, 1920, to Ferdinand and Hannah (Harkness) Anderson in Union County, S.D. Les lived in the Akron area his entire life. He attended Alcester (S.D.) High School.

He married Maxine Shearer on Aug. 2, 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. They lived in the Akron area all their married life. They have lived on the same farm northeast of Akron for 51 years. Les also did carpenter work and built several houses. Les also worked for the Akron Coop Grain Co. as well as farmed.

Les was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and at one time was president. He was active in the men's organization, enjoying dartball. He was a 4-H leader for 30 years. He enjoyed the fairs. He was a member of the Plymouth County Farm Bureau and the Akron Senior Center. Les enjoyed his work, his family and friends. He was always ready with a helping hand.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Maxine; a son and his wife, Eric and Marlys of Akron; a daughter, Susan Anderson of Akron and Correctionville, Iowa; a grandson and his wife, Captain Scott and Stefanie Anderson of Fort Drum, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren, Erik, Katarina and Jonah Anderson; a brother, Elmer of Akron; a sister, Thelma Dams of Muskego, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Bullock of Sioux City; three nieces and three nephews; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, a grandson, Mark Anderson; a sister-in-law, Jean Anderson; and a brother-in-law, Elwood Dams.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Johnson, Arnold Clark, David Mortensen, Layne Todd, Dennis and Darrell Bullock and Douglas Dams. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Hostetler, Curtis Lewison, Wayne Sadler, the Rev. David Gerrietts and all men of Trinity Lutheran Church.
