Rita Grover Strickland passed away November 4, 2011. She was born December 24, 1933 in Aransas Pass, Texas to Tipton Paul Grover, Sr. and Edith McCullough Grover.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents; brother Tipton Paul Grover, Jr.; sister Isabelle Grover Roquemore.

She is survived by a host of family and friends.

At the age of three, Rita was severely stricken with Infantile Paralysis (Polio). Her health improved gradually and with the help of braces, crutches and a strong spirit, Rita lived an almost normal life. She graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1952. She was briefly married to her childhood sweetheart, Earl Strickland of Aransas Pass and Florida.

She worked for the Nueces County Medical Society for seven years, for L.E. Ray Bookkeeping for 13 years, before establishing her own bookkeeping service in 1975. Most of Rita's bookkeeping customers were fishermen. She delighted in being able to help their business in the forefront, encouraging them in hard times. She loved their boats, Conn Brown Harbor and the sea birds. She loved animals in general, having both dogs and cats from childhood til the end of her time. She loved her Lord from childhood and sought to be a lighthouse for him. In the meantime she went to college at Del Mar in the evenings and took special Real Estate courses and received her Real Estate Brokers License and served as Treasurer and President of San Patricio Board of Realtors. She was a member of the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce, being the first lady President in 1975. She joined the Aransas Pass Women's Club at about the same time and spent many years sharing in its activities. Rita was appointed as a Board Member of the Rural Coastal Bend Private Industry Council in the 90's by Judge Edmondson and later Josephine Miller of San Patricio County. This council specialized in helping students with their education and getting training for employment. She had been a member of Tri County EMS since 1981 and has served as treasurer.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2011 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Prairie View Cemetery.
