Retiring in 1972, he worked in the extrusion department at Continental Rubber Works in Erie. He formerly worked as a truck driver for Kashain Motors of Buffalo, N.Y., and at the ore docks in Erie. He attended school in Lake City. He served as an elder at Lake City Presbyterian Church, enjoyed gardening and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha I. Case Wheeler, whom he married Dec. 21, 1932; a son, Ronald E. Wheeler; a sister, Ethel Cole; three brothers, Archie, Elmer and Victor Wheeler; a half sister, Edna Wheeler; a half brother, Marvin Wheeler; and a grandson, John Wheeler.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn N. Redden and her husband, Calvin, of Lake City; a son, Richard B. "Bud" Wheeler and his wife, Geraldine, of Fairview; a daughter-in-law, Norma Wheeler of Apex, N.C.; a sister, Betty Frey and her husband, Lawrence, of Lake City; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
