Grace Mildred Woodhouse King, 94, of Floyd County, born April 10, 1917, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011, with her son and daughter at her side. Grace was the loving mother of Mary Wiley and Skip King, both of Pilot, Floyd County. She was the proud grandmother of David Stewart Wiley, of Roanoke, Katherine Wiley, of Winston-Salem, Sara Kominsky of Riner, and Skye and River King of Pilot. She was the doting great-grandmother of Cecelia Grace and Solana Kominsky, Alexander and Julian Pecoraro, and Misha and Mara Wiley. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome B. King. She was born Grace Mildred Woodhouse in Dowagiac, Michigan, graduated from Nazareth College, and received graduate degrees from Columbia University. She was an amateur musician, and a teacher and elementary school principal for almost 40 years. A private family service and burial was held at the family's Laurel Ridge Farm in Pilot on November 7, 2011. A Memorial Service will also be held at Chapel Pointe in Carlisle, where Grace and Jerome lived for many years. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra in her name.
