Clara was the daughter of William Cherry Penfield and Agnes Adelia Perry. Her father had been a prisoner of war from the Gettysburg conflict during the Civil War.

Clara lived some years in Washington, D.C. She was a librarian, after 1921 in St. Paul Minn. She wrote letters in 1925 with family history and did some research in the Library of Congress. We wish to acknowledge this work. The Penfield families are deeply appreciative. She was unmarried.
