Bishop and Rev. James Luther Akers organized two churches in Bell County, KY, and served as Pastor of the Cary Church of God of Prophecy for over 34 years. He also worked full time with the L&N Railroad and retired from L&N after 53 years, having started to work for them in 1912. Rev. Akers was married to Mary Cathern "Katie" Dean in 1909, and they had eight children. He was a wonderful grandfather to me and spent many hours with me; and he let me tag along with him many places.
