Charles Zachary Spurlock was born 18 March 1931, Coweta, Wagoner County, Oklahoma. He was the son of James Marion Spurlock (1898-1988) and Ada Ruth Belle Warfield (1900-1978). He married, first, Miss Margaret Jean Johnson. Margaret was born 03 June 1933, Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma. Charles and Margaret meet while they were college students. He was a student as OSU and she was a student at Northwestern. They married in April 1953. They were passionately in love. Margaret was the daughter of Claude Nathan Johnson (1907-1975) and Clema Marie Stephens (1912-1997). Ada, Claude and Marie were all school teachers. Jim worked in the Oklahoma oil fields.
On 09 December 1955 Charles enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on 06 September 1957. Charles and Margaret were blessed with four wonderful children. He enjoyed many things with his children. He loved to play the clarinet with his oldest daughter. They would play together for hours, each attempting to out play the other.
Charles and Margaret lived on the family farm with Jim and Ada, and John and Myra. In the 1950s and 1960s, Jim and Charles operated oil wells on the farm. It went along fine for several years until they blew one of the wells up. Ada put her foot down, no more oil production on the property.
Both Charles and Margaret work off the farm. Charles was a respected masonry contractor. One of his great grandfathers had been a stone cutter on the Bell Rock Lighthouse in 1811. There are other masons and stone cutters in the family history as well.
Charles married second, Toni (Garcia) Privette. She predeceased him in death. He raised her children Whit, Ashley and Jennifer, as his own.
Charles was the only son of Jim and Ada. He had two older half sisters Mrs. Maxine Fletcher and Mrs. Lucille (Spurlock) (Pyle) Spurlock, and his younger sister Mrs. Myra Taylor. The children of Jim and Ada have all died. He is survived by his four children, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his three step-child, as well as, numerous step grandchildren; and, great grandchildren.
