Norman J. "Dobby" Dobson - A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, in a local hospital. Mr. Dobson was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and retired after 42 years with the U.S. Naval Reserves and Seabees. He served as Lt. Commander of the Mobile Sea Cadets for 40+ years and was named Honorary Admiral by the Governor. Mr. Dobson also worked for BellSouth and retired after 35 years of service. He was very active in the Telephone Pioneers. He was a faithful member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. A loving husband and family man who loved life, people and especially, the outdoors, he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maryetta Laubenthal Dobson and John Benjamin Dobson; brother, John Dobson, Jr.; and sister, Maryetta Knowles. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lois Deese Dobson; daughter, Diane Dobson (Philip Kolin); grandsons, Eric Norman Jamison and Scott Thomas Jamison; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Dominic Catholic Church, 4156 Burma Rd., Mobile, AL 36693.
