He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war.

He was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Syracuse Herald American - March 11, 1945

T/5 William J. Donlon, Jr, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Donlon of 122 Dorothy Street, reported missing in action in Germany Feb 15, was killed on that date, his parents were notified yesterday by the War Department. His mother had received a letter from him March 2, the day after she was notified that he was missing. The letter was dated Feb 4.

Corp. Donlon was serving with a unit of engineers when he was killed. He was 20 years old and entered the Army at 18 in July 1943 soon after he was graduated from Christian Brothers' Academy. He attended St. Vincent de Paul's School before going to the academy.

He trained at Indiantown Gap, Pa; at Camp Myles Standish, Mass and took a technical course at Boston before going overseas about a year ago. He was injured in England and had been hospitalized, but returned to duty and had gone to France and Germany with his units.

Besides his parents he leaves one sister. His father is road foreman of engineers of the Mohawk Division of the New York Central.
