Francis Barzilauskas, former Yale football star: - December 2, 1990

A service will be held Tuesday for Francis "Fritz" Barzilauskas, 70, of Van Rose Drive, a former Yale and professional football player, who died Friday, Nov. 30, 1990, in the Hospital of St. Raphael after a long illness. He was the husband of June Garrity Barzilauskas.

His funeral will take place in Sisk Brothers' Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden.

Mr. Barzilauskas was born in Waterbury June 13, 1920, a son of the late Anthony and Veronica Barzilauskas. He was a resident of North Haven since 1963.

He graduated from Yale University in 1947. He served in the Yale Athletic Department as an assistant coach and administrator of the intramural program for 20 years before his retirement.

Mr. Barzilauskas played guard for Yale in 1945 and 1946 and for the New York Giants in 1951.

He was a lieutenant and pilot in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Anthony Barzilauskas of Hamden; four daughters, Diane Compton and Joan Barzilauskas, both of North Haven, Janie Barzilauskas of Guilford and June Barzilauskas of Wallingford; and three grandchildren.
