He was first married to Alma Pearl Carter in Vigo Co, IN on Nov 21, 1921 in Vigo Co, IN.
After her death, he & Florence Galyan had a son, Elmer Ray (1928-1929).
He later married, Sarah Louise Taggart in Jackson Co, IN on June 8, 1935. Together, they had 3 children. Their daughter, Judith Ann Ooley (1934-1936), is buried in Garrison Cemetery in Monroe Co, IN.
Virgil was a fireman on the Monon Railroad also known as the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railway.
