Fashion Figure. Best known as the longtime muse of Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), she designed significant creations in her own right. Born Louise Vera Lucia Henriette Le Bailly de la Falaise, she was raised initially in a series of foster homes after her parents divorced in 1950 and her mother was declared unfit. Begining in 1955 Loulou attended boarding schools in Sussex, England, then Switzerland, and finally America though she proved to be a rather difficult girl who managed to get herself kicked out of each one. Married at 18 she was soon divorced and in the late 1960s landed in New York where she modelled and later created fabric designs for Halston. Moving to Paris in 1972 she was to join the firm of YSL and to be by his side as he influenced a generation's styles, her sense of color proving especially valuable. Loulou was to gradually add creations of her own, mostly jewelry, and following YSL's 2002 retirement began marketing her own clothing lines. She was later to specialize in boxes, vases, and jewelry sold in upscale stores, her own boutiques, and online; Loulou died following a protracted illness. Of her approach to her art she said: "I'm consistent in my tastes. I like bright, multihued fabrics and colors. Anything can inspire me, whether it's a journey or a crack in a wall".
