Edgar Wilber Roberson Sr., 84, of 1992 Center Hill Hwy., Hertford, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 31, 2011, in Chowan Hospital. Born in Perquimans County, he was the widower of Elizabeth Hunter Roberson and the son of the late Elmer and Belle Mansfield Roberson. He retired as a farmer and seed corn salesman with Funk Seeds, Inc. and more recently worked as a site clerk with Waste Industries, Inc. He was a member of Great Hope Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, member of the Perquimans County Farm Bureau Board of Directors; Bear Swamp/Beech Springs Ruritans and past president and active member of Woodmen of the World. Roberson helped organize the Perquimans County Youth League, was a former 4-H leader and member of American Legion Post #126. He served in the Army during World War II. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Becky R. Kretzer and Lee, of Seminole, Fla.; two sons and their wives, Edgar W. Roberson Jr. and Gail and Kelvin Roberson and Rhonda, all of Hertford; a step-brother, William "Billy" Roberson of Edenton; six grandchildren, Bonnie Vincent and Rob, Kristie Thach and Richard, Mindy Story and Willie, Justin Roberson and fiancée, Meagan, Knight, Candace Davenport and James and Brandon Roberson; and five great-grandchildren, Kolby Walker, Tanner and Maddux Thach, Peyton Story and McKenzie Davenport. He was predeceased by brothers, Carroll Roberson, Carlis Roberson and Julian Roberson. The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Great Hope Baptist Church with Rev. George Wilmore officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Wood Cemetery.
