Solomon Dorney

Businessman. He was the founder of "Dorney Park". In 1860 he built a fish hatchery and picnic grove along Cedar Creek in the western suburbs of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Gradually he started adding games, refreshment stands, playground style rides, a restaurant, hotel, a zoo, and eventually mechanical rides. By the late 1800's his creation became known as Dorney Park. Today, Dorney Park and Wild Water Kingdom contains over 100 rides, games and attractions on 200 acres of land and has become one of the most popular amusement parks in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
