U.S. Congressman. He attended De Hagan's Academy, engaged in mercantile pursuits, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1842 and commenced to practice law at Talbotton, Georgia. He was probate judge of Talbot County, (1852-68) and a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives, (1867-71). In 1870, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-first Congress to fill the vacancy of William P. Edwards, serving until 1871. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and was a United States census supervisor in 1890.
