My Dad married my Mom (Ingrid Shackleford) on February 14,1960 (Valentines day). They were married until she died Dec 23, 1984. They raised 5 children. All through my childhood and growing up; I remember my Dad working very hard to support our family. We did not see him as much as we would like but knew that he was doing it for us. He loved Ingrid and stayed by her side through many difficult days and years while she battled cancer. Several years after Ingrid died; Dad met a wonderful woman (Janice). They were married, and she was very good to my Dad as well as Janice's Children from a prior marriage. I am so devistated at the loss of my Dad. I did not have as close a relationship as I wished, and for that I am very sad. I loved him very much. My daily prayer was that He would accept Jesus Christ as his Savior. He did pray to accept the Lord with our pastor when my Mom died. After 41 years of praying for Him, as well as my brother and sisters and Mom while she was alive; I have to believe the Lord answered that prayer. My Dad was a strong and quiet man. I never knew what he was thinking . He was very kind to people he did not know.He would give you the shirt off his back. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it. In fact he died while helping someone else.

The day Dad passed away(Nov. 4th 2011 3:15pm) one of their neighbors had asked Fred to give them a ride to the store. Fred would help people in their complex by giving them rides if they needed it because they had several neighbors that needed help that way. He said goodbye to my step Mom and said he would see her in just a few minutes. He drove about 3 minutes to the cvs store and parked right in front of the store. His friend/neighbor Mike, went into the store and when he came out about 5 minutes later Fred was slumped over the steering wheel. Mike immediately called 911 and they tried to revive him without any luck. They took him by ambulance to Kaiser hospital Roseville, where he was pronounced dead. His wish was to be cremated and burried with moms grave.

The last email I received from Dad was a birthday wish (29 days before he died):

"CHARLES - 51 YEARS AGO - A SATURDAY - AROUND 7 AM - YOUR MOM BROUGHT YOU INTO THE WORLD - SO, ONE MORE TIME MOM AND I WISH YOU A "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" - MY TIME LEFT ON EARTH I'M NOT SURE, BUT WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR BEING THE SON YOU
ARE AND SAYING A DAILY PRAYER FOR ME - TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR GROWING FAMILY AND
ALWAYS HAVE A LOVING LIFE AND ATTITUDE................(MOM) AND DAD.................. "

Oh Dad, I wished I could have told you in person how much I love you, before you left this earth. But its to late. My only hope is to see you again in heaven when we are all reunited.
