Johann Peter married Anna Maria on 16 Nov 1818 in Zwengenberg, Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany. They arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio from Germany in 1837, bringing their six surviving children: Conrad, 16; Katherina Elizabeth, 14; Johann Ludwig, 11; Charlotte Franziska, 9; Eva, 7; and Clara, 3. Johann worked as a tailor in Cincinnati for a time before relocating his family to Madison, Indiana to homestead as farmers.

Johann Peter & Anna Maria apparently raised their grandson, Lewis Bechmann, after Lewis' mother, Katherina (d/o Johann Peter & Anna Maria), & Lewis' two younger siblings were struck down in a cholera epidemic in Cincinnati in 1850. Lewis was five years old at the time. Lewis was sent to live with his grandparents at the start of the epidemic, and stayed with them in Madison after his father remarried & started a new family in Cincinnati.

Johann Peter died on his farm north of Madison, Indiana along what is now on the east side of US Highway 241. Both he & his wife, Anna Maria, are buried in Hebron Cemetery on the property of the Baptist church which adjoined the farm where they lived. (Nonetheless, the Friedersdorffs were Lutherans, probably belonging to a church in Madison proper.) Hebron Baptist Church and Cemetery are located off North Graham Road, north of County Road 250. A "Last Will & Testament" was recorded for Johann Peter, written 28 Dec 1868, one day before his death. Recorded 11 Jan 1869: "Mary, my wife, to have all the real estate and at her death, to be equally divided among my children. Son, William Conrad, Adm."
