Thomas Simp Bagwell, prominent Simpsonville resident, died at his home at 1:15 o'clock Thursday morning following an extended illness. While his death was not unexpected it will be mourned by his many friends.
Mr. Bagwell was a son of the late Alfred and Mattie Balding Bagwell and was born in Spartanburg county Jan. 28, 1873. For the past 23 years he had made his home at Simpsonville, where he engaged textile work as long as his health permitted.
He was a devoted member of Temple Baptist church.
Mr. Bagwell is survived, by his wife, Maggie Godfrey Bagwell, and the following children: five sons, John B. Bagwell of Mountville, Horace Bagwell, Hoyt Bagwell, Joe Bagwell and Harold Bagwell, of Simpsonville; and three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Brookshire, Mrs. Sara Fenley and Mrs. Fannie Holcombe of Simpsonville.
He is also survived by one brother, J. J. Bagwell of Canton, N. C.; five sisters, Mrs. D. B. Cobb of Easley, Mrs. Dan Howard of Ware Shoal, Mrs. Jim Leathers of Pelzer, Mrs. Pearl Rhodes and Mrs. Charlie Waldrop of Greenville; 26 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at Temple Baptist church in Simpsonville at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. L. W. Pace and the Rev. B. L. Wood, and interment will be in the Simpsonville cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers will be James Godfrey, Adger Curry, Harrison Waldrop, A. J. Howard, Raymond Campbell, and Dick Rhodes.
The following are asked to meet at the church at 3:50 o'clock to compose the honorary escort; M. E. Thackston, Smiley Campbell, M. A. King, Morris Curry, Harper Barbrey, A. M. Smith, J. W. Alexander, H. R. Renner, J. A. Marlar, R. C. Holcombe, George Adair and Mark Brown.
Flower girls will be Misses Mary Thompson, Doris Bagwell, Capitola Bagwell, Betty Joe Brookshire, Martha Curry and Martha Jane Ballew.
Further announcements will be made by R. D. Jones and Sons, morticians, and awaiting the hour of the service the body is at the home.
