Charles was one of three Gilbert children who moved to Wichita in the 1880 after the death of their mother. They were raised by their grandmother Mary Jane Hilton Baughman.
For many years the Gilbert Brothers ran a furniture manufacturing and sales business in Wichita on N. Main St.
