According to the 1900 Census for Oregon Township, Lucas County Ohio, Charles Mehrten was boarding with the family of A R Fassett at that time, and was occupied as an oilman. He married Ida, who was a daughter of Mr. Fassett, on October 10, 1900. Charles Mehrten indicated he was born in March of 1871 in Pennsylvania.
The marriage record of Charles G. Mehrten to Ida Fassett in Vol. 9, page 510 of Marriages 1899-1900, Lucas County Probate Court, indicates that he was born to John H. Mehrten and Amelia Heeler in Clarion County, PA.
After their daughter, Grace, was born, the Mehrtens moved to Kansas, presumably following his work. They later returned to Oregon Township where they built a home on land that was Ida's inheritance, next to the Fassett homestead on Seaman Road, where they lived the remainder of their days.
