Joseph Rukavina dies in Washington

Joseph Bernard Rukavina, 68, died May 26, 1982 in the Veterans Hospital in Walla Walla, Washington. He was born April 15, 1914 at White Knob, Idaho, a son of Mike and Mande Rukavina. He was a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church.

Joe attended school in Mackay. He served for four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.

On July 29, 1937 he married Gale Abeggelen of Walla Walla. She preceded him in death.

Joe was employed in the Mackay area about 13 years; he then moved to Blackfoot where he worked for 16 years. He resided at the Veterans Home in Boise for seven years. Early this year he moved to Walla Walla to be with his son Bill and family.

Survivors include two sons, Robert D. of Soda Springs, and Billy Lee of College Place, Wash.; five sisters, Mary Pedrini of Enumclaw, Wash., Lillian Burnside of Vancouver, Wash., Cathryn Dillon of Seaview, Wash., Mattie Whitney and Anna Marinac both of Mackay; one brother, Louis of Mackay; and three grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary was at 7:00 p.m. Monday in Marvel Memorial Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Mackay with Father Manuel Gomes, celebrant. Members of Joe Nowacki Post No. 16, American Legion, folded and presented the flag, Interment was in Mt. McCaleb Cemetery, Mackay.
