Charles was born on January 9, 1928 in Hammond, IN to Weldon Daniel and Clara (Kline) Stafford and lived in this area most of his life. On November 18, 1950 in South Bend, IN he married his beloved wife Mary Catherine Boomhower, who survives. 'Charley' was known for his great sense of humor and his engaging personality. He will be greatly missed by all the members of the family.

Charley started out as an aluminum siding contractor until he discovered his real working passion, the restaurant business. He purchased and operated the Windjammer Restaurant in Syracuse, IN for many years. All of his children worked by his side at various times throughout its operation. He later owned the Country Inn in Topeka, IN until his retirement. Even during his retirement he was drawn back to the restaurant business by working at the South Bend Shrine Club and Four Lakes Country Club. He was a member of the National Restaurant Association during his career.

Charlie served in the United States Army at the close of WW II and became a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church, when he retired to the City of Mishawaka. He was brave and courageous until the end. At the age of 79 he passed away peacefully at 7:45PM Sunday, August 19, 2007 in his Mishawaka home surrounded by loved ones.

Along with his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Mary Stafford, survivors include his three daughters, Elizabeth (Darrell) Bridwell of Osceola, Patricia Spiehler of Bloomington, IN, and Clara (Tim) Boser of Mishawaka; three sons, Dick (Michele) Stafford of Indianapolis, David (Cheryl) Stafford of Orange Park, FL and Timothy Stafford of Goshen; nine grandchildren, David (Chandra) Stafford, Esther Stafford, Charles Stafford, Tom Stafford, Katherine Stafford, Rosemary Boser, Mary Ellen Spiehler, David Spiehler and Jennifer Spiehler; three great grandchildren, Alexandria, Daniel and Charles; three sisters, Leila Seghers of Appleton, WI, Arlene (Ken) Hauser of Hollywood, FL, and Sue Cox of Carmel, IN and two brothers, Buddy (Mary) Stafford of Hollywood, FL and Robert (Jackie) Stafford of Niles, MI.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM Thursday, August 23, 2007 at St. Monica's Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka Ave, Mishawaka. Rev. Jeffery Largent will officiate. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend.
