Former Whiteson area resident Steve J. Carter of Molalla died of causes related to cancer May 8, 2003, in his home. He was 60.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Adams Cemetery, Molalla.
He was born April 1, 1943, in McMinnville, the son of Derrell and Maxine Carter. He was raised in the Whiteson area and attended Amity schools. He served in the Navy from 1960 to 1963.
He and Marlys Jean Marvin were married in 1965.
After marrying, he lived in Newberg, Mulino and Colton. He worked as a refiner operator for Publishers Paper and Smurfit Newsprint in Oregon City for 32 years. He retired in 1998 and moved to the John Day area.
He loved horses, was a certified farrier and raised Limousin cattle. He was an avid hunter, hiker and fisherman. He belonged to Timber Valley Bible Church, Colton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark Carter of Portland and Stuart Carter of Lynnwood, Wash.; his mother of McMinnville; six sisters, Tyra Whitney, Nelda Martin and Dale Uglesich, all of McMinnville, Janet Neill of Carlton, Doris Stacey of Aumsville and Linda Clark of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Tom Carter of Gardiner; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Karon Green.
Memorial contributions may be made to any hospice or to the Timber Valley Bible Church building fund.
