Darrel Ray Blackwell passed away on November 3, 2011.

He was born on November 26, 1918 in Providence, Kentucky to Jess R. and Annie Head Blackwell.

At an early age he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was sent to Utah where he helped build many projects throughout southern Utah. There he met a local girl, Lois Laura Chynoweth, from Henrieville, Utah, and married her in 1941. Together they had four daughters. Lois passed away in 1960.

Darrel later married Rhea Darlene Beardall from Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1963. Together they had one daughter. Darlene passed away in 1998.

Darrell proudly served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He also served the communities in which he lived. He was Mayor of Henrieville and was on the board of the Layton Planning Commission for many years.

He was a man of great integrity, with a strong personality. Darrel was in the home building/construction business his entire life. He owned and operated Layton Builders for 50 years. One most certainly couldn't drive one-half mile in Davis County without passing something he had built. He was honest, dedicated, and always gave a full day's work.

Darrell loved to fish, and the Boulder Mountain was his favorite place on earth. He spent many days there with his extended family. He was an active member of the LDS faith, and served many positions in the Dixie Ward in Layton, Utah.

He is survived by his children Bonnie (Jerry) Mecham, Lynda (Richard) Schneiman, April (David) Brimhall, Holly (Tat) Thompson, his brother Thomas, and sisters Faye, Joyce, Loyce, and Beverly Jo.

He is preceded in death by a daughter Fairy Lee Blackwell Livingston, and brothers Morris and A.B., and sister Louise.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary prior to services.

Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, where military honors will be accorded.
