Orville "Bud" Charles Maker, son of Arthur Fritz and Emma Martha (Block) Maker, was born February 1, 1919, at Guttenberg. He attended rural schools near Guttenberg and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the North African and European Campaigns. He was first married to Lorna Ricker and they had a son, David. Later he married Anna Marie Heins and they had three sons, Terry, Rick, and Rodney, and a daughter, Roxanne. He was employed in Postville all of his life, working for the Postville Farmers Cooperative in the feed department. He retired at the age of 62.

He died Monday, January 27, 1992, at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital at Manchester. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 30, 1992, at Schutte Funeral Home, Postville. Pastor Charles W. Miller officiated the service. Burial was in Postville Cemetery.

Surviving were his four sons, David of Elkader, Terry and Rick of Cedar Rapids, Rodney of Downing, Calif.; a daughter, Roxanne (Mrs. Charlie) Bentrim of Cedar Rapids; 19 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Ewald of Strawberry Point and Lester of Manchester; a half brother, Howard of Monona; a sister, Agnes (Mrs. Francis) Everett of Marion, and a half sister, Lena Funk of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lorna; two sisters, Arlene Schroeder and Ruby Shaw; and a half brother, Eldo Meyer.
