Alace was born 19 Apr 1916 at Halstad, MN. She was the daughter of Nels O. Strommen (25 Oct 1869 – 24 Jun 1945) and Ida Helena Reitan Strommen (27 Mar 1884 – 17 Dec 1968).

Alace had six brothers and sisters as follows: Orville Joseph 19 May 1903–19 Feb 1981 (Lily Mae Forde 31 Mar 1904–5 Oct 1976), Clarice "Irene" 17 Sep 1904–14 Oct 1991 (Oliver L. Lee 24 Oct 1904–23 Jun 1970), Nora "Harriett" 10 Dec 1906–8 Sep 1998 (Ingman "Ordean" Sterton 24 Sep 1903–9 May 1988), Florence Edith 13 Nov 1908–13 Jan 1999 (Anton "Miles" Wold 15 Mar 1904–22 Feb 1959 and Edward Walter Oban 27 Dec 1908–12 Oct 1989), Harold Merlin 5 Sep 1911–14 Jul 1980 (Elizabeth "Betty" Harriet McNair 14 Jun 1918–10 Jun 1999) and Doris Mildred 6 Apr 1919–24 Jul 2015 (Elder Haugen 29 Aug 1917-28 Feb 2017, div. and Ralph Stuart Hatcher 21 Jun 1907–22 Dec 1985).

Alace grew up in Halstad and graduated from Halstad High School. She went on to St. John's Hospital in Fargo for nurse's training and became a registered nurse.She worked during the war at the VA Hospital and lived with her parents in Fargo.

After the war Don and Alace lived in Minneapolis, MN where Don attended Dunwoody Institute and Alace worked at Eital Hospital. During this time they adopted a son, Bruce Donald born November 30, 1947.

They moved back to Perley and lived on the Anderson Farm where Donald grew grain and milked cows. They continued farming until Donald became ill with throat cancer. He passed away July 2, 1961, at his farm home.

After Donald's death Alace and Bruce moved to Fargo, ND where Alace returned to the VA Hospital as a registered nurse. She continued working there until her retirement.

Alace married Percy J. Miller 7 Oct 1972 and they were later divorced. She eventually moved to Castle Rock, CO to spend her last years near her son, Bruce. Alace passed away 16 Dec 2001 at Castle Rock, CO. Funeral services for her were held at the Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND on Apr 20, 2002. Inurnment was in the Bethania Lutheran Cemetery next to Donald.
