Marilyn J. Carter, age 75, of Mount Vernon died Wednesday March 18, 2009 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. Marilyn was born February 19, 1934 in Etna, Ohio to Kenneth and Helen Leona (Handley) Hofmann. She was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and had spent her lifetime in the Mount Vernon area.

She was a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church, the Knox County Agriculture Museum and the Fredericktown Historical Society.

Surviving are her daughters Kathleen “Katie” (Steve) Frazier of Mount Vernon, Mary (Terry) Davis of Butler and Martha (Steve) Petrucelli of Worthington; six grandchildren Isaac Frazier, Jayna Davis, Trent Davis, Sarah Carter, John Petrucelli and Nick Petrucelli; her sisters-in-law Roberta Hofmann of Mount Vernon, Edith “Todd” Carter, June Carpenter, Jean Carter and Carolyn (Paul) Seymour all of Fredericktown and her feline companion Tabby. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David “Jake” Carter, her brother Edwin Hofmann, brothers-in-law Harold Carter, Jack Carter Ronald “Red” Carpenter and sister-in-law Libby (Clyde) Houle.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2pm at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Knox County Agriculture Museum, Fredericktown Historical Society, Knox County Humane Society, Green Valley United Methodist Church, or the Fredericktown Public Library.
