U.S. Congressman. Educated at the Macon Business School Georgia, he became successful in banking and mercantile pursuits. Entering politics, he served as a member of the Georgia State Senate (1894-95). In 1897, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1909. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he returned to his former business interests until his death.
