Robert J Maxwell, 84, died in the Grinnell General Hospital. Interment in the Goldenrod Cemetery, Deep River, Iowa.

He attended rural schools and Thornburg High School. He farmed with his parents west of Guernsey. For seven years drove the horse and wagon school bus. He also did custom farm work and continued to have an avid interest in horses. They farmed near Guernsey until 1944 when they moved to their farm near Deep River and in 1986 they moved into Deep River, Iowa.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church (United Church) in Deep River. He was a trustee and elder. He was a Mason and a long time member of the Golden Rod Lodge in Deep River, a member of the Lafayette Lodge #52 A.F.&A.M. He served as a township trustee, was a member of the Farm Bureau, a 4-H leader and a A.S.C. committee man.

Robert James Maxwell was the son of James and Mattie Hurd Maxwell.

Born 16 January 1908 at What Cheer, Keokuk County, Iowa.

Married the 22 May 1938 to Frances Miller at her parent's home northeast of Brooklyn, Iowa.

To this union five children were born. James, Richard, David, Jeane and Ellen.

One son, James, died in infancy in 1939.
