He was born January 8, 1932 to James W. and Clara Cravens at the Cherry Mound settlement near Denison TX.
He was a 1949 graduate of Denison High School and was a member of the winning Yellow Jacket football team of 1948. After serving proudly in the United States Marine Corps, Joe married his high school sweetheart, Joann Newland, on June 13, 1953.
Joe worked as an operating engineer at #2 power station of the Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas for over forty years.
Survivors include his wife, Joann; one daughter and one son; six grandchildren and his three great-grandsons.
Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, George Cravens and Denver Cravens; his sisters, Agnes Campbell and Katherine Brown; by his daughter, Julie Davis.
His funeral service was held at Broussard's, 505 12th Street, Nederland, Texas.
Interment followed at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, Texas.
