Vincent U. Hohenstein, 79, of Springfield, died Thursday at Memorial Medical Center. He was born April 8, 1917, in Springfield, the son of Albert E. and Nellie Gibbons Hohenstein. He married Thelma M. Yost in 1947. Mr. Hohenstein, a lifelong resident of Springfield, retired in 1979 after 42 years of service with Illinois Bell Telephone Co. as an assigner. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, American Legion Post 32, Elks Lodge 158, VFW Post 755, DAV, Telephone Pioneers and was a veteran of World War II. Survivors: wife, Thelma M. Hohenstein; two daughters, Nancy Amburgey of Knoxville, Tenn., and Vicki Williams of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Michael V. Hohenstein of Springfield, six grandchildren; a sister, Mary Warner of Winchester, Va.; a brother, Edward A. Hohenstein of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Mass: 9 a.m. Monday, St. Agnes Church, the Rev. Patrick Wright officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
