He was trying to get home after the battle of Vickburg in July 1863 and died along the way. Body is assumed to be buried in the Kendrick Cemetery but could be somewhere between here and Vicksburg, MS.
He enlisted in the 1st Louisiana Regiment, Regular Artillery on Sept. 12, 1862. His parents were Matilda Erwin and John A. Kendrick. Most of his family is buried in the Kendrick Cemetery in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana.
