Doris Jean Cromer, 81, of Bridgewater, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, with her family by her side.

Doris was born in Rockingham County on Jan. 7, 1930, and was a daughter of the late Wade and Ora (Boyer) Armentrout.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Brenda Layman and husband, Dwight, of Dayton, and Billie Stickley and husband, Keith, of Grottoes; two sons, Swanson Cromer of Bridgewater, and Fred Cromer of Hinton; a sister, Joyce Allman and husband, Homer, of Dayton; two brothers, Carl Armentrout and wife, Nancy, of Keezletown, and Kennis Armentrout and wife, Carolyn, of Keezletown. She also is survived by four grandchildren, Christy, DJ, Carla and Zach; and five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon, Carly, Lexie and Madison.

In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by three brothers, Grover, Ralph and Fred Armentrout, and two sisters, Carolyn Hensley, and Margaret Dove.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Briery Branch Church Cemetery, with Pastor Randy Cosner officiating. A meal will follow at the church fellowship hall.

Memorial contributions may be made to Clover Hill Fire & Rescue, 2100 Clover Hill Road, Dayton, VA 22821.

Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater is in charge of arrangements.
