Charles Raymond Delaney, 90, of New Kensington, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born Oct. 14, 1921, in Queenstown, near East Brady, he graduated from East Brady High School, then served in the Army as a radio operator during World War II, where he was a member of the 4th Armored Division, 3rd Battalion, B Company in General Patton's Third Army. Mr. Delaney was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in France. An auto mechanic at Jo-Duke Pontiac in Arnold and Key Lincoln-Mercury in New Kensington, Mr. Delaney enjoyed working on cars, even in his spare time. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and was a 51 year social member of the Seventh Street Sportsman's Club, both of New Kensington, and was a life member of both the VFW Post 92 of Lower Burrell and the Disabled American Veterans of Arnold. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth "Jane" (McConville) Delaney; children, Dennis C. (Laura) Delaney, of Spring Church, Charles E. Delaney, of New Kensington, Mary Jane (Robert) Hunter, of Penn Hills, Ronald J. Delaney, of New Kensington, Barbara Ann (Ed) King, of Grove City, Linda M. Knize, of Creighton, and Carol Jean Delaney, of New Kensington; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Wascak, Anna McConville, Margaret "Peg" DeMaria and Albert Delaney. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington (724-335-1234), where prayers of transfer will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 1125 Leishman Ave., New Kensington.
