Funeral for Charles Phillips, 87, Who Farmed in This Vicinity Nearly 40 Years.

Funeral services for Charles William "Charley" Phillips, 87, of the Bonair Community, were held last Thursday, September 19, 1957 at 2 p.m. at the Larson-Zachow Funeral Chapel, Lime Springs. The Reverend H. C. Shaffer, pastor of the Lime Springs Methodist Church, was in charge of the service.

Pall bearers were John James, Harold Marshall, Casper Johnson, Jess Stevens, Lyell Murray and Earl Grabau.

The deceased was laid to rest in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lime Springs.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Phillips of Waterloo; Mrs. Carl Jensen, Thomson, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Diettrich and Mrs. Ruth Diettrich of Clinton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nefzger of Fayette, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Neisen of Waterloo; Lewis Ruzicka of Elma, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Albertson and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Murray of Waterloo.

The Obituary Follows:
Charles William Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Phillips, was born in Carroll County, Illinois, May 9th, 1870 and passed away September 17th, 1957 at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 7 days.

On February 25th, 1901 he was married to Amey E. Warfield in Lime Springs. To this union were born five children: Arthur of Waterloo, Iowa; Elsie, Mrs. Clem Hyke of Cresco; and Lester at home; Frank and Esther preceded their father in death.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, and 3 children, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He moved to Iowa 40 years ago from Ogle County, Illinois and farmed in the Lime Springs community with the exception of 2 years he farmed south of Cresco. He was a man of quiet nature and was content to spend his leisure time around his farm home.
