Rosa was born in Troy, SC. She graduated from college with a bachelor's degree, early in the 20th century, and became a teacher. She taught school in NYC where she met Marion J. Mayo. They married and moved to St. Louis where they had 4 children, all daughters. Martha Rhoda (Warren), Rose Marion (Mabuce), S. Carolyn (Van Heest), and Cora May (Mullins). She passed away on Good Friday in April 1977, ~1 month shy of her 90th birthday.
