A.D. "Bud" Luers, age 92, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 5th, 2011 at St. Anthony Medical Center.

Bud is survived by his children: Jan (Steve) Sallee, John (Jeanne) Luers, Kathy (Ken) Cook, Karen (Bill) Utley, and Douglas (Evelyn) Luers; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Paul (Adelle) Luers and Marvin (Mary Lois) Luers.
He was preceded in death by his spouses: Betty Memmer, whom he married in 1944 and Virginia Murray Carter, whom he married in 1993; 2 sisters: Doris Faker and Mary Ruth Klendworth.

Bud was born in 1918 and raised on a 200 acre farm near Rensselaer. He received his B.S. Degree in Agriculture from Purdue University and his Masters� Degree from the University of Chicago. He was a World War II veteran serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1974 as an Area Administrator after 32 years on the Purdue University Staff of the Cooperative Extension Service. He served in various Extension Educator positions in LaPorte, Warren, St. Joseph, Vigo, and Lake Counties (County Extension Director). Bud was active in The People-to-People Organization, St. Anthony Hospital, Purdue Alumni Association, President of Lake County Plan Commission, Coordinator of the LCCDC, Lake County Park Board, St. Mary Catholic Church, Elks Lodge, Indiana Christmas Tree Growers Association, and the Gary and Crown Point Rotary Clubs (50+ yrs.). Bud owned farms in Vigo and Lake Counties and was owner of Luers Christmas Tree Farm in Crown Point, where he brought enjoyment to many families throughout the years. Bud enjoyed traveling abroad and visited many countries around the world.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 10th, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 E. Joliet St., Crown Point, IN, with Fr. Pat Kalich officiating. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Rensselaer, IN.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, June 9th, 2011 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, (located 2 blocks east of Broadway) at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to: St. Mary Catholic Church and School or The American Diabetes Association
