Oscar Anton Nelson, Sr. was born 30 Jan 1886 in Moorhead, Clay County, MN to his parents, Nels L. Nelson (28 Jan 1850-3 Mar 1913) and Pernilla "Nellie" Hovland Nelson (17 Mar 1860-17 Dec 1945).
Oscar's known siblings were: Annie H. 1881-22 Jul 1888, John Edward 16 Oct 1882-15 Sep 1959, Lawrence Nicolai 1884-1895, Alfred Henry 18 Nov 1888-5 Jan 1948, Anton 1890-1890, Anton 1892-21 Oct 1918 and Lawrence Nicolai 15 Jun 1895-22 Jan 1970.
Nels and his family came from Moorhead to the Perley area. He was a flour miller in Moorhead and was known as "Miller Nelson." About 1895 he was working at the Wild Rice Roller Mill for George and John Johnson.
Around 1906 they rented a farm in Georgetown Township and moved there. Later they went to the North Dakota side of the river to farm near Mons Ohnstad. After the father, Nels passed away in 1913, the family moved back to Moorhead. The sons continued to work for farmers in the Perley area.
Oscar married Ida Helmine Hovland 31 Jul 1917 at Glendive, Dawson County, Montana.
Soon after their marriage, Oscar and Ida moved to Breckenridge, Wilken County, MN where he was working for the Soo Line Railroad.
In 1922, they moved to Ayr, ND. It was at Ayr that their twin sons, Arthur and Norman were born.
In March 1924, Oscar bought four horses and he hauled all their household goods on a hayrack and came to Perley. They rented the old Jack Eastwood farm just east of Julius Granfor's farm.
In 1937 he bought a farm in Section 11 of Georgetown Township in Clay County, MN. They farmed here until Oscar retired in 1954.
Oscar and Ida were the parents of 8 children as follows: Nora Nicoline 28 Nov 1917-21 Dec 2014, Alice Gertrude 19 Oct 1919-23 Nov 2003 (Wallace N. Erickson 9 Nov 1919-4 Aug 2006), Lorraine Jennet 2 Nov 1921-20 Jul 2003 (Arnold Hugo Potratz 3 Aug 1924-16 Jun 1969), Arthur Norval 10 Dec 1923-6 May 2005 (Helen Ronsberg), twin to Arthur, Norman Alexander 10 Dec 1923-28 Dec 1996, James "Loyd" 8 May 1925-Living (Dorothy Ball), Oscar Anton, Jr. 23 May 1927-30 Jul 2020 (Grace E. Johnson 11 Nov 1931-27 Jul 2017) and Pernell Marie 16 Nov 1929-Living, Valdosta GA (Charles Wallace Jones unk-8 Dec 2002).
The family were all members of the Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Perley. All the children were confirmed by Pastor Thomas Anderson of Bethania. The children attended Sunnyside rural school and some graduated from Borup High School, Borup, MN.
Oscar passed away 15 Feb 1963 at Moorhead, MN. Funeral services for him were held at the Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Perley, 18 Feb 1963 with Pastor Raymond L. Larson officiating.
