SUCCUMBS--Mrs. Jane Eliza Bateman, 89, formerly of the Taylor Ridge area, died at 8 o'clock last night in the Wilton Junction rest home, in Wilton Junction, Iowa, following a 6-month illness.

Mrs. Bateman was born April 25, 1862, in Bowling township, the daughter of James and Sara Johnston Bowes. She was reared and received her education there and in 1880 was married to George Vanatta. The couple moved to West Liberty, Iowa, where they resided about thirty years.

She was married to Omer C. Bateman in 1913. The couple farmed south of Taylor Ridge for 36 years. Mr. Bateman died Feb. 16, 1950. Mrs. Bateman was at the Wilton Junction rest home for the last three months.

A member of the Taylor Ridge Methodist church, she took an active part in her younger years in that church's activities. She was a demitted member of the Andalusia chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors are a son, Ruben G. Vanatta, Chico, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Florence A. Warner, rural route 1, Bettendorf; a brother, James Bowes, Little York; three sisters, Mesdames Adeline Crabs, Geneseo, Elizabeth Carpenter, Alberta, Canada, and Lillian Sparks, Shelbyville; a step-daughter, Mrs. Laura Donahue of Ohio; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, a brother and a sister.

The body has been brought to the Larson funeral home in Milan where friends may call after 7 o'clock tonight.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock in the funeral home and at 2:30 o'clock in the Taylor Ridge Methodist church. The Rev. A. R. Buckrop, pastor of Grace Methodist church, East Moline, former pastor of the Taylor Ridge Methodist church, and the Rev. Roy Larson, present pastor of the Taylor Ridge Methodist church, will officiate

Burial will be in Reynolds cemetery.
