Vincent William Young, a former resident of Boring, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, at his home in Clackamas. He was 91.

A funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 31, at Sandy Funeral Home, followed by a burial with military honors at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Vincent was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Boring to Clifford and Freida (Steiner) Young. After graduating from Gresham High School, he joined the Marine Corps on Feb. 27, 1941. He was part of the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Tank Battalion, which served on several islands in the South Pacific including Okinawa, Tarawa and Saipan. He was honorably discharged in September 1945.

On Aug. 10, 1946, he married Glendora Porter in Portland. The family resided in Pleasant Valley before moving to Twickenham in Central Oregon, where they purchased a small sheep ranch. After several years they moved to a small farm in Cottrell.

Vincent did commercial fishing in Alaska and on the Columbia River as well as ranching and carpentry. He eventually started his own pump business, Young's Pump Supplies, off Bluff Road in Boring.

Vincent loved to play pinochle and cribbage with family and friends, especially with his brother-in-law Albion Olson.

Survivors include his wife; son, William Young of Sandy; and granddaughter, Michelle Dobson of Boring.
