Hazel was born at Big Prairie, OK, and was the daughter of Thomas Everett and Clarissa Mae Greemore Stites. She married Lewis Jasper Russell on July 16, 1938 in McAlester. They moved to California in the early 1940's and lived in Taft and Fellows, CA for 37 years. She worked for many years as a power machine operator and later owned and operated her own garment business. In 1980 they returned to Kiowa where she had a ceramic shop. She attended the Kiowa United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, LaVelle and Rev. Kenneth Hyde, Palmdale, CA, and Leona and Bobby Vest, Kiowa, OK; two sons, Lewis Russell, Kiowa, and Alfred Russell, Taft, CA; six grandchildren; a sister and brother in law, Modean and Leon Polansky, Stuart. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Carroll, O.C., Bazzel and Denver Stites; and five sisters, Violet Marney, Flossie Sofge, Aretta Cearley, Jo Adams and Eyleen Caillaud. Funeral services were held June 11, 1996 at Kiowa United Methodist Church.
