Betty J. Acton, born November 29, 1923, enjoyed a full and happy life of 87 years, when, on October 14, 2011, she passed peacefully to eternal rest. Betty was born in Gainesville TX to Flake Woody and Jessie Eugenia Tippit. She and her sister, Margie, enjoyed life on the ranch with their extended family, where her love for children and pets blossomed.

She graduated from high school in Enid OK and attended Oklahoma University. During WWII she transferred to Texas University to earn certification in aeronautical design and went on to work at Camp Gruber, southeast of Muskogee OK, near her parents' home. Later she attended the University of Central Oklahoma, receiving her Masters in Education. After the end of WWII, she returned to OU, where she met the love of her life, Bion J. Acton. They married in 1947 in Muskogee and returned to his home town of Guthrie OK, where they raised their four children.

Betty was very proud of her new home and participated in every way she could in their community. She has been a member and Sunday school teacher in the First Christian Church of Guthrie, and a member of Chapter AD, P.E.O. She was past chairman of Logan County Red Cross, director of the Red Cross Water Safety Program in Logan County, chairman for the Logan County Red Cross Blood Drive, a member of DeMolay Mothers Club, and a Kappa Alpha Theta alumna. She later served on the Logan County hospital bond executive committee and was a United Way member. Betty was very proud to also serve as secretary for the Guthrie Arts and Humanities Council.

Her greatest passion was in educating children. Betty taught in Abell, Cotteral, Central, and Fogarty elementary schools. She belonged to the Association of Classroom Teachers, OEA, NEA, and International Reading Council and was a charter member in organizing the Logan County Chapter of IRC. She was rewarded in 1978 as Guthrie Teacher of the Year.

Betty leaves behind her loving husband, Bion J.
