Lyda Lee Durham, age 86, Athens, Alabama went to be with our Lord on Friday, October 1, 2010 at her home with her family by her side. Lyda was born in Rosedale Miss., March 27, 1924 to Dewitt Talmage Davis and Jessie Mae (Evans) Davis. She lived in the St. Joseph, Benton Harbor, Michigan area from 1946 to 1996 when she moved to Athens Alabama with her then husband Joe Durham. She worked at Potlatch paper mill in Benton Harbor Mi. from 1960 until she retired in 1976. She was a long time member of the Napier Parkview Baptist church in Benton Harbor and a current member of the New Life Assembly of God church in Athens, Alabama.
She was preceded death by her parents, her first love in life husband Carlton L. Williams Sr., her son James Talmage Williams and her grandson Kenneth L. Williams Jr. She and Carlton had four children together. She was married to Joseph Durham of Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1976. After they retired, she and Joe enjoyed painting and doing wood crafts together. They moved to Athens, Alabama in 1994.
She is survived by her Husband of 35 years, Joe Durham; two of her three sons Carlton L. Williams Jr. and wife Barbara of Pleasant Valley NY, Kenneth L. Williams and wife Judy of Nashville TN; One daughter Deborah Williams-Hamilton and husband Thomas of Childersburg AL; Two step sons, Greg Durham of Benton Harbor and Bruce Durham of Coloma, MI; One brother Larry McKaskle of Houston, TX; 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday Oct 4, at 11:00 AM at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home in Athens, AL. Visitation will be Sunday Oct 3, at 5:00 for family and 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. for friends. Burial will be in Hester's Chapel with Pastor Rob Phraner Officiating.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Hamilton, Greg Durham, Ray Durham, Kelly Durham, Paul Davis and Brad Durham.
