Samuel Cable engaged in general store business in Pierce, Ohio (Now East Sparta) about 1875. In 1880 he owned the grist mill in the same town and soon after sold it to John Swan. He was well known as a man of means who helped many a friend with financial loans and thereby was called "Uncle Sam". His burial place is in the Cable Cemetery (Greenlawn Cemetery) which he laid out in 1850 and which was afterward donated to the community of his birth
