Willie (Bill) Cross Burke, 77, of Roy Dugger Road, London, Kentucky, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, Kentucky.
Born September 10, 1925, in Oneida, Tennessee, he was a retired tractor mechanic and farmer, a veteran of the United States Army, member of the Sinking Creek Baptist Church, and member of the McKee Lodge #144 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frona (Litton) Burke and Mitchel Asbury Burke, four sisters, Hazel Phelps, Mary Ellen Marcum, Eva Terry and Ilene Hollifield; and three brothers, Walter Burke, Keith Burke and Kenneth Burke. Survivors include his wife, Irene Boone Burke, two daughters, Marlene Burke of London, Kentucky, and Mary Lou Casada of Manchester, Kentucky; two sons, Anthony Burke and Craig Burke, both of London, Kentucky; a brother, George Burke of Warren, Michigan; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at the Sinking Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Golvin Chadwell and Bro. Marlow Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Dunn Cemetery on Sinking Creek under the direction of the London Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Gerald Boone, Kenny Boone, Jimmy Boone, Craig Boone, Brian Boone and Chris Clemons.[Source: The Sentinel-Echo, July 4, 2003]
